As part of the SAFEST project, partner NIVEL, together with patients and other project partners, has developed a checklist that hospitals can use to improve their patient information. This checklist helps patients obtain information before and after surgery. Its content is based on what patients want to know about surgery. The checklist is intended for adult patients undergoing elective surgery and for family members, partners, and informal caregivers who support the patient.
The SAFEST project focuses on improving patient safety during the perioperative process. As part of this project, a set of multidisciplinary and evidence-based recommendations was developed based on international guidelines and the scientific literature. The project ran from June 2022 to July 2026 and aimed to improve adherence to these evidence-based recommendations and reduce the number of surgical complications in ten participating hospitals. Radboudumc (IQ Health department) was one of the partners and participating hospitals.
