Tijn Kool and Mirre Scholte from the IQ Health department contributed to a successful grant application within ZonMw's PriORitize II programme. A grant of €1.1 million has been awarded for the project.

The research is led by surgeon Philip de Reuver, Radboudumc, and carried out in collaboration with three general hospitals and the University of Twente.

The PriORitize II project focuses on developing an advanced dashboard that supports healthcare professionals in optimising the use of operating capacity, especially during periods of scarcity, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic. The dashboard uses health economic models and optimisation functions to combine data on health gains, capacity and costs. This enables healthcare providers to make informed capacity decisions that deliver maximum health gains while contributing to a fair and efficient allocation of available capacity.

The project utilises real-life data from hospitals and ensures standardised data exchange. The aim is to develop an interactive dashboard that enables scenario analyses, so that the effects of different prioritisation choices become visible. The project thus aims to support a future-proof healthcare system, in which the use of surgical capacity becomes more efficient and inequality in access to care is reduced, both during crises
