Thanks to improved diagnosis and treatment, people with cancer are living longer. Some forms, such as chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), therefore require lifelong care. This study shows that good adherence to care appointments appears to have a positive impact on survival. Patients whose care was more closely aligned with the guidelines were up to 50% less likely to die. Digital healthcare plays a key role in this. Digital healthcare platforms improve quality of life, reduce symptoms and help people manage their condition more effectively. The Dutch CMyLife platform supports people with CML with medication use and check-ups, leading to better self-management and greater control over their own care. This not only helps patients but also reduces the pressure on the healthcare system. Furthermore, this research demonstrates that affordable medication options and new treatment strategies, such as reducing or temporarily stopping medication, contribute to sustainable and future-proof care. CML illustrates how digital, patient-centred care can also help with other chronic diseases.
