Knowledge bank Publications Journal of Health Care and Ethics

Health care is not free of exclusionary practices. This can be read (in Dutch only) in this third issue of TGE in a probing contribution, in which we follow the illness trajectory of one of the authors. In this story, we read how distressing the consequences can be when patients are not taken seriously enough and their know-how is not sufficiently valued, when patients are excluded from involvement in medical decision-making.

Also, an article on stigma, which is at odds with ethical principles such as inclusiveness, non-discrimination and justice. The author aptly demonstrates the effects of stigma based on an analysis of a novel by Simon Vestdijk, in which the main character has severe psoriasis.

Other topics covered in this issue: the social approach to dementia, perspectival agility, and developing shared moral reflection with people with intellectual disabilities. These are inclusion practices that combat stigma and promote humanity.
