Something really needs to be done in healthcare. Staff shortages are mounting and we are asking for more and more care. At the same time, we don't know whether many treatments work. We even provide care that we know does not work or - at worst - causes harm. Moreover, care is a major contributor to CO2 emissions. Good examples of appropriate care do exist but the big movement has yet to take off. That movement requires a fundamentally different view of health and illness.
That new perspective is what Tijn Kool, professor of appropriate care at IQ Health, describes in his new book: How do we get our care to be appropriate? In it, he tries to explain as accessibly as possible what is currently lacking in care and what we can do as first steps toward sustainable and sustainable care.
