News A new project to upskill HTA body workforce & harmonise HTA expertise in the EU

30 May 2024

When a patient receives care in the Netherlands, it is important that it is safe, effective, meets the needs of the patient and is efficient. Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a multidisciplinary approach to determine whether this is the case. The goal of HTA is to arrive at the best choices and create the greatest value in care.

To ensure the ongoing implementation of the latest and most appropriate HTA methodologies and tools in practice, the SUSTAIN-HTA - Support Utilization of Sustainable and TAilored INnovative methods for HTA - project was launched. This is a European initiative through which we are building a support infrastructure to be able to support HTA personnel. SUSTAIN-HTA's vision is to align HTA expertise through an education and training platform that can drive the introduction of new needs-based HTA methodologies. The platform will provide high-quality expertise on innovative HTA methodologies that meet the needs of HTA agencies.

The overall objectives of the project are:

  • Create a sustainable framework to understand the needs of European HTA bodies for new innovative HTA methods and tools.
  • Identify the innovative HTA methods and tools developed by academic groups in recent EU-funded projects and beyond.
  • Support HTA bodies in the uptake of innovative methods and tools, tailored to their needs.

Within this project, IQ Health is leading the work package that focuses on the development of an integrated training programme and platform for (new) HTA methodology for implementers and users. Its development in collaboration with academics and HTA agencies ensures a high-quality training programme supported by a digital platform for training identification and tracking.

Wija Oortwijn, Wietske Kievit and Liza van Mun are involved in the project from IQ Health. Please check https://www.linkedin.com/company/sustain-hta/ for more information.
