The Hermesdorf Prize 2023 was recently awarded to the Platform Diversity in Gender and Sex, an interfaculty collaboration of which Dr. Anke Oerlemans is a member from the IQ Health department. This research platform combines knowledge and expertise on intersex and trans themes from different scientific disciplines to conduct research, together from an interdisciplinary perspective. With this research, the researchers of this platform want to contribute to dialogue about human rights, insights from gender studies, social sciences, ethics, language and communication sciences and political science with medical discourse. They strive to conduct research based on the experiences and needs of intersex and trans persons, and are eager to collaborate from the outset with trans and intersex persons, advocacy organizations and other stakeholders to do so.
Each year, the Hermesdorf Prizes go to a junior and a senior researcher from Radboud University and/or Radboudumc who have made a significant social impact with their research. In the tradition of the namesake, this looks at researchers who have shown some form of courage, stuck their necks out or not shied away from resistance.
