News Junior medal for Harm van Noort

14 February 2024

Nursing scientist and researcher Harm van Noort has received the junior medal from the Radboudumc for his doctoral research on nursing nutrition care. Surgery is a top performance for your body. Therefore, it is important that patients go into surgery in a good nutritional condition. In his PhD research, Harm shows that patients who received personal nutritional advice before surgery ate much more and better than the control group. This made them fitter going into surgery. As a scientific researcher and nurse, Harm immediately sees the impact of his research at the patient's bedside. An enormous added value, he says. More own research also means better career prospects for nurses and more control in the hospital.

Harm's research into nursing nutrition care not only shows how patient care can be improved. It is also a call for more nurse scientists with dual jobs: 'This way we can take back control of our profession. 'This makes Harm a nursing role model at Radboudumc.'

Since his PhD, Harm has worked with Prof. Hester Vermeulen and Dr. Getty Huisman de Waal (both IQ Health) and Prof. Ben Witteman (WUR/ZGV) as a nurse scientist in the Department of Surgery. There he continues his research and provides care in the surgical oncology department.
