About
We are a multidisciplinary research & education group focusing on the sustainability of healthcare systems. We support policy makers and other stakeholders in making choices about financing and (innovative) care.
Scope and area of work
We aim to ensure sustainability and quality of care through analysis, methodology development and process development in two areas.
Read moreScope and area of work
The healthcare system is under increasing pressure due to aging and technological developments, among others. The Health systems and HTA R&E group aims to ensure the sustainability and quality of care through analysis, methodology and process development in two areas.
With our work on affordability of care, we provide tools for future challenges in healthcare. We focus on efficiency in long-term care, labor market issues and effective fiscal policy.
Our work on health technology assessment focuses on evaluating the value of medical technologies at different stages of their development. 'Value' can thereby be expressed in different ways, for example in terms of money, health or well-being, in consultation with stakeholders such as patients, healthcare providers, policy makers and citizens.
We focus specifically on the evaluation of medical technologies from an early stage of development, and the improvement of decision-making processes at micro (e.g. specialists), meso (e.g. hospitals) and macro (e.g. package management at ministries) levels, both nationally and internationally. We do this through research, education and consultation.

HTA is a multidisciplinary process that uses explicit methods to determine the value of a health technology at different points in its life cycle. The goal is to inform decision making to promote an equitable, efficient and high-quality health system. As such, it requires transdisciplinary teamwork. It is closely intertwined with clinical practice and health policy.
